Digital accessibility ensures that people with disabilities can access the same information, perform the same tasks, and receive the same services as people who do not have disabilities. The Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) is committed to ensuring that DFPS’ Electronic and Information Resources (EIR) are accessible to state employees and members of the public with disabilities.
DFPS is continually improving its user experience for everyone by including assistive technology users in digital accessibility testing processes and applying the following standards:
- Section 504 and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
- Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Title II: Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Disability; Accessibility of Web Information and Services of State and Local Government Entities
- Texas Government Code, Chapter 2054, SUBCHAPTER M. ACCESS TO ELECTRONIC AND INFORMATION RESOURCES BY INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES
- Texas Administrative Code, TITLE 1, ADMINISTRATION. PART 10, DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION RESOURCES, Chapter 206
- Texas Administrative Code, TITLE 1, ADMINISTRATION. PART 10, DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION RESOURCES, Chapter 213
- Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), version 2.1, Level AA
To ensure accessibility compliance, DFPS reviews content regularly and tests EIR manually with assistive technology and automated testing software.
