The Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the Partners for Children and Families Committee (PCFC). The committee works with DFPS to improve and strengthen the Texas child protection system. PCFC also advises DFPS, Single Source Continuum Contractors (SSCCs), and the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) on the evolution of the child protection system to its model of Community-Based Care and the impact on the child protection system at large.
DFPS is specifically seeking applicants who are current foster parents and can bring their firsthand experiences, perspectives, and insights to help inform discussions and recommendations related to the Texas child protection system. The participation of foster parents helps ensure that the experiences of children, youth, and families involved in the foster care system are considered in the committee's work.
The appointed member will serve on the PCFC Committee for a term expiring April 30, 2030. The selected member will be expected to actively contribute to the committee's work by sharing their firsthand experiences, knowledge, and expertise as a foster parent to help inform discussions and support efforts to improve the Texas child protection system. The member may also be asked to participate in related committee activities and initiatives that align with their experience and areas of expertise.
DFPS is seeking applicants who meet the following qualifications and expectations:
- Must be a current foster parent with firsthand experience in the Texas foster care system.
- Must demonstrate a commitment to the children, youth, and families of Texas.
- Should be willing to share their experiences and perspectives to help inform discussions and recommendations related to the Texas child protection system.
- Must regularly attend and actively participate in committee meetings.
- Must be willing to participate in committee-related activities and initiatives, as appropriate, to contribute their foster care experience and perspective to the work of PCFC.
- May be required to participate in projects, presentations, and other activities related to the committee's work.
- Members may be removed for excessive absences, as determined by committee consensus.
The PCFC Committee meets in Austin quarterly. Travel expenses associated with committee meetings, subcommittee meetings, workgroup meetings, or other activities are not reimbursed.
